Cleansing a Space and Heart

Many times in our life we are surrounded by woes and the general non-constructive energies of today’s world. There is terror, pain, sorrow, and many other negative things around us. But, our home should be a place of serenity and a power base to recharge and feel at peace.

To keep our homes clean and pure we clean them. On the physical plane we do this by vacuuming, washing windows, disinfecting surfaces, and all the other house-hold chores many of us dread. But to cleanse our homes spiritually we must look inside ourselves and bring forth love and positive energy. Here is a prayer that will calm your mind enough to find the pure energy to cleanse your home and reclaim it as your power base.

In Paganism, we use supplies when doing certain prayers. These supplies are symbols that allow us to remember what we are asking for. Some supplies are as simple as a lit candle, some can get elaborate, such as a sage snuffer to symbolize air. Do not feel that these supplies are necessary for a prayer to work. A prayer is a prayer no matter what you supplement it with. Like I said earlier, these are symbols to keep you on track.

Another disclaimer, if you are searching for prayers and supply lists include anything that you cannot find in the natural world (I speak of supplies such as dragon’s blood, wolf’s bane, etc.) please think twice before saying the words of the prayer. Thank you.

Now, back to the prayer.

Supplies:

1 White candle -White symbolizes purity, which is what you are seeking in the end. Also the flame symbolizes the fire element.

2 bay leaves- This symbolizes the earth. This will remind you that you are a creature of the earth and that it is always with you in any endeavor you choose to pursue.

1 bowl of water-This symbolizes the cleansing which you seek. Water is an element that is gentle but can make its way through the darkest and hardest of places. Let it find your soul and cleanse it of the muck and mire of this world

Place the bay leaves in the water and have the candle in front of it. Feel the energy from all of the objects and if you feel that they are giving you a bad energy then by all means throw it out and start again. You must begin this prayer with purity of heart and purity in all the objects you use (if you decide to use the list of supplies).

Now the words of the prayer:

Goddess on high hear my cry

God on high lend your ear

I come before You for this:

To ask for harmony and bliss

Spirits of sadness, auras so dark

I ask You to be away from my heart

Elements of earth, water, and of air

Cleanse this room, do not let happiness tear

I call the corners, North, West, East, South

I ask You to cleanse this house

Cleanse this space, Cleanse my heart and mind

Do not let doubt rule me this time

May I not miss beauty,

May I not miss love,

May I not let myself get in the way.

Blessed be, and by the God and Goddess, So mote it be

At this time you can blow out the candle.

I hope this helps purify your home so that you will feel safe, energized, and at peace in your most sacred of space.

Blessed Be!

“To Daffodils”

My favorite English poem has to be “To Daffodils” by Robert Herrick.

Here it is below:

“Fair Daffodils, we weep to see you haste away so soon.
As yet, the early rising sun has not attained its noon.
Stay, stay, until the hasting day has run
but to the evensong
and having prayed together, we will go with you along.
We have short time to stay as you.We have as short a spring.
As quick a growth to meet decay
as you, or anything.
We die, as your hours do, and dry away
like to the summer’s rain
or as the pearls of morning’s dew,
Ne’er to be found again.”

This poem is so strong talking about the change of the season spoken through the life of a daffodil. It’s sentiments are powerful and very striking. While reading the poem think of how it could relate to your life.

I think it is a reference back to the phrase “Carpe Dium” Cease the Day. Perhaps knowing that death is apart of our cycle we can live life like there is no tomorrow, love like there was no yesterday, perhaps we can be who we want to be now, rather than later.

There is a lovely song of this poem by a wonderful Choral composer, Andrea Ramsey. If you would like to listen, I have placed the song below for you to download.

Have a wonderful day!

A Painted Piano

Alright everyone, it is almost summer time and that means Summer projects!

This year I have decided to take it up a notch. I will not simply be doing a few gardening tasks, or repainting a room of the house or something like that. This Summer I am going to completely refurbish and paint a piano.

(This is a picture of the piano at the previous site. I have yet to move it to my house)

As you can see there is a lot of work to be done. The tuning is fine, but the physical appearance is something that needs to be addressed. There is sticker residue, water damage, and a bit of spider’s nests.

Now, for those of you who love pianos and are cringing at the idea of painting such a work of art, please hold off on any concerns. I am an owner of a few pianos and these household treasures have been apart of my ancestry for quite some time. I am taking many precautions to ensure the safety and tastefulness of the piano itself.

I got the idea of painting a piano from a blog. A photographer and her husband loved the idea and tackled the project one summer. I cannot wait to get started.

Pagan connection: Crafting provides a connection between the physical world and the spiritual realm. It takes faith to make a project turn out the way you need or want it to. In the beginning, a project seems like nothing. It has no hope, it is forgotten by the world. But if we put love and faith into it and we believe that it will be something, then it will manifest into something beautiful and powerful. Don’t underestimate the power of faith. If we believe in ourselves and the work we choose to do we will be rewarded in more ways than we could ever imagine.

Blessed Be!

A prayer to the Goddess

I have found many people worship the God and Goddess independently, some even reserving the worship of our God for Holy Sabbats or other Holy venues.

Here is a prayer that came to me while I was meditating on the Goddess the other night. After a quick prayer a few moments ago, I felt her presense and knew it was time to post it for you all to read and hopefully apply to your life.

Goddess, full of power and strength

I call your name.

Please be near as I pray here, I call you once again.

In humble reprise I will close my eyes and feel your presence now.

Goddess of the old and of the new, you are whole and I fall to you.

I ask for your guidance, I ask for hope. Fill my heart and soul.

Thy power is pure, your gifts so beloved

Thanks be to the Goddess

Thank you for your love

Thank you for all you’ve done

Blessed be and by the Goddess, so mote it be

Have a blessed day everyone!

Blessed Be.

The Herb of the Week: Sage

This is a new thing to The Pagan’s Pathway!

The Herb of the week. I will post a new herb each week. I will give a picture of what it looks like, some scientific information, and some medicinal uses. I will also be posting a recipe that has the herb in it. What better way to use a medicinal herb than to eat it! (If applicable)

Alright, this week we will feature Sage.

Botanical Name: Salvia officinalis

Interestingly enough, Sage actually means “To heal.” How appropriate for the cure-all herb.

This is an herb found in any supermarket and can easily be grown on your windowsill. It is planted mostly through plant cuttings, instead of the usual seed-based planting that we are used to.

Sage can be put into skin lotions, creams, and even aftershaves. There have been some claims that Sage can be used to color-treat graying hairs.

Use sage to treat a variety of ailments such as over-productive sweat glands, and to relieve menstrual cramping.

Making a tea from the sage leaves and adding a bit of natural honey will alleviate cramping, smelly feet, diarrhea, and even give the drinker a calming sensation.

Warning: Sage has dehydrating properties. So, if you are breast feeding keep in mind that it will reduce milk production.

A Sage Recipe: Sage Mashed Potatoes

  • 4 medium potatoes, peeled and cut into 1/8-inch slices
  • 1 medium onion, chopped
  • 1/4 cup water

  • 1/8 teaspoon pepper
  • 1/2 cup reduced-fat plain yogurt

  1. In a greased 11-in. x 7-in. x 2-in. baking dish, layer the potatoes and onion. Combine the water, oil, sage, salt and pepper; pour over potato mixture. Cover and bake at 450 degrees F for 45-50 minutes or until potatoes are tender, stirring twice. Transfer to a mixing bowl; add yogurt and mash.

Change

Change is eminent in our lives. It is a process everyone must endure, and to be frank, it scares most of us. I find myself looking forward more than I should, just wishing that there would be no transitional period. But, try as we might, change is not that easy.

But if we take a step back and look at the change and have faith that it will all be alright then we can find our way. As Andre Gide says, “Man cannot discover new oceans unless he has the courage to lose sight of the shore.” Lose site of the Shore, and embrace the change coming your way. You may be pleasantly surprised what you find on the other side.

Here is a prayer that will help you in your change-embracing pursuits.

Say this a few times before going to bed. Have a candle lit if possible, if not omit the candle just feel the fire within.

Water so pure, wash my soul

Earth full of power, strengthen my faith

Air which flows, move my placid state

Fire so bright, ignite my passion

Elements of the God and Goddess, bring forth change

This is my path, God and Goddess of my soul

This is love, power, and my choice alone

If this not be true, void this chant

Purity of heart, be the antidote of chance

Blessed Be!

Have a wonderful Day!

Blessed Be
